Drummond's Math
[e-Mail this Article]     [Print this Article]

Did you see the ad where Drummond Coal said that only 650 acres of farm land in Montgomery County will be affected by Longwall mining in a year’s time? They implied, "What's the big deal beacuse its such a small amount of acres and people that will be effected." Wait a minute isn’t Colt Coal under the new name Hillsboro Energy LLC going to have two mines running at the same time too? Let’s see. If my GRADE SCHOOL math teachers were right, three (3) mines times 650 acres a year equal one thousand nine hundred and fifty acres (3 X 650 = 1950). It appears to me that someone at Drummond must have been asleep during their math class.

Also, doesn't each mine want 1000 acres for the mine site itself and processing plant. Let's see...3 mines times 1000 acres, why that's a total of 3 thousand acres.

1950 acres + 3000 acres equals 4950 acres taken out of production just to get the mines up and runing the first year.

Somebody needs to go back to grade school math class.
